Review of the winners' concert in Prague

Along with the other winners of the 7th Broumov Key International Piano Competition in 2017, I was invited by the Czech Philharmonic to take part in a concert in the autumn in Prague. We performed in the Suk Hall of the Rudolfinum on 18 October, 2017, and the Czech music magazine, Harmonie had a critical review of the concert in November.

Excerpts (translated from the review of Veroslav Nemec):

‘The star of the evening was the winner of the third category, Máté Dömötör from Hungary. Although he looked very introverted upon entering the stage, already in the first piece, the Allegro in C major of the Three piano pieces D 946 by Franz Schubert, he showed that he can play with a stunning sparkle - and with great dynamic and keystroke nuances. His own "parquet" however, is undoubtedly music of the more intellectual kind: The Ballade and the Romance of the Brahms Piano pieces, op. 118 were played individually, with the understanding and experience of a mature artist. The final Ostinato, No. 146 of Bartók’s Mikrokosmos, turned into a dazzling pyrotechnic spectacle under the pianist’s fingers. I believe that we will hear more from Máté Dömötör.’
